Festival Indian Vibe Wedding for M&E in Somerset

A Wedding Day to Fall In Love With

Such a busy wedding season 2023 has been for Amanda-Louise Knight Weddings, Proposals & Events, and its not over yet. As things slow down a bit though, we catch up reflecting on our celebrant weddings.....

The beautiful late April wedding of Megan and Ethan was definitely one to remember. Megan who has a Skih and Hindu background and is an archaeologist and Ethan a police officer from Essex choose the stunning Woodford Farm Weddings Venue in Somerset which is closeby to family members.

The all important wedding ceremony was written and conducted by me (Amanda-Louise Knight) after the couple found me on google and our planning meetings took place via zoom., so I could get to know them and write a service just for them. No wonder Celebrant weddings are so popular these days! - see below what indian rituals we incorporated into their wedding service.......

Ethan got ready separately, leaving Megan and her wedding crew to get ready and celebrate with glasses of bubbly....

the wedding crew colour scheme was burnt orange with converse shoes

The whole day was filled with celebration and happy tears!  The couple's signature style was unique, wanting a non religious wedding ceremony with Sikh and Hindu elements weaved in the service as Megan is half Indian and her grandparents were Sikh. Their hexagon shaped wedding arch with dried flowers of bouquets and decor blended in well with the landscape on the island where the ceremony took place.

The ceremony area was on a small island
The bride, wedding crew and father of bride walk from the accommodation towards the bride onto the ceremony
the wedding crew walk in first to the wedding aisle, closely followed by the bride...
Bride Megan and her father walk across the bridge towards the wedding aisle
Groom Ethan with his bestman and usher wait patiently
Welcome to our wedding ceremony written especially for Ethan and Megan

Celebrant Amanda-Louise Knight supported the couple to write personal vows to one another
We think Ethan's promises and how he felt made Megan weak at the knees!
it certainly made Ethan's mum Wendy cry listening to her son
Megan's dad was at the ready with a hankie for his daughter

Then it was time for Megan's mother Wendy to read a poem entitled 'Marriage Advice' from 1886 by Jane Wells (when I work with couples I give them a link to my blog with over 200 poems and readings to give them some ideas!)

Handing over my microphone to mum Wendy

We then went onto exchanging rings....

I invite one of the wedding crew up with those all important wedding rings
Almost time to exchange those precious rings (this is where I talk about the unending circle of love - just like the unending circle of the rings!

Using a Celebrant means there are no restrictions, so the couple choose to exchange jaimalas (aka varmalas). This is a Hindu tradition whereby the couple put floral garlands around each other’s necks, the bride traditionally putting it on the groom first. The jaimala is a token of acceptance. According to research, it’s something that’s been practiced for over 2000 years! See below how it went.....

Bestman started the ritual
Ethan presents the garland to his bride Megan
Celebrant Amanda-Louise Knight weaves in wording around this ritual and its meaning
Then it was Ethan's turn to receive his garland

Then onto the moment where I make sure I move out of the way as we finish our service with the english tradition of a kiss....

I didnt need to remind Ethan to kiss for more than five seconds, so their photographer can capture the moment!

Here I am clapping and wishing the couple happy ever after as we conclude our wedding service

The new Mr and Mrs then walked over the bridge towards their marquee wedding reception
The whole wedding day was filled with celebration and a festival relaxed feel
Congratulations Ethan and Megan, it was an honour being your Celebrant, hope you had a wonderful wedding day
